Review: Tales of the Peculiar by Ransom Riggs

Title: Tales of the Peculiar (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children #0.5)
Author: Ransom Riggs
Published: September 3rd 2016
Date Read: December 19th – 20th 2016
Read In: English

Before Miss Peregrine gave them a home, the story of peculiars was written in the Tales.

Wealthy cannibals who dine on the discarded limbs of peculiars. A fork-tongued princess. The origins of the first ymbryne. These are but a few of the truly brilliant and haunting stories in Tales of the Peculiar – known to hide information about the peculiar world – first introduced by Ransom Riggs in his #1 bestselling Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children series.

Riggs now invites you to share his secrets of peculiar history, with a collection of original stories in this deluxe volume of Tales of the Peculiar, as collected and annotated by Millard Nullings, ward of Miss Peregrine and scholar of all things peculiar.

This book contains 10 stories:
 The Splendid Cannibals
 The Fork-Tongued Princess
 The First Ymbryne
 The Woman Who Befriended Ghosts
 Cocobolo
 The Pigeons of Saint Paul's
The Girl Who Could Tame Nightmares
 The Locust
The Boy Who Could Hold Back the Sea
 The Tale of Cuthbert

Some stories were better than others, but i liked this book a lot. It's a nice collection for readers of the Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children series. The Splendid Cannibals was a great choice for being the first story in this book, because it got me hooked immediately.

Review: Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi

Title: Furthermore
Author: Tahereh Mafi
Published: August 30th 2016
Date Read: December 17th – 18th 2016

And So It Begins

There are only three things that matter to Alice Alexis Queensmeadow: Mother, who wouldn't miss her; magic and color, which seem to elude her; and, most important of all, Father, who always loved her. It's been almost three years since the day Father disappeared from Ferenwood with nothing but a ruler in his pocket, but Alice is determined to find him. She loves her father even more than she loves adventure, and she'll have to embark on one to find the other.

To bring Father home, Alice will travel through the mythical, dangerous land of Furthermore, where down can be up, paper is alive, and left can be both right and very, very wrong. Her only companion is a boy named Oliver, who is an experienced guide with his own tangled secrets. It will take all of Alice's wits to make it through Futhermore and hold fast to the magic of love in the face of uncertainty and loss.

This book was a lot different than the Shatter Me series, but i did like this book. Alice was kinda cute and i understood her feeling of being left out. The land of Furthermore was fascinating and kinda creppy at the same time.

Review: Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Title: Heartless
Author: Marissa Meyer
Published: November 8th 2016
Date Read: December 10th – 17th 2016
Read In: English

Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland and a favorite of the unmarried King, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, she wants to open a shop and create delectable pastries. But for her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for a woman who could be a queen.

At a royal ball where Catherine is expected to receive the King's marriage proposal, she meets handsome and mysterious Jest. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into a secret courtship.

Cath is determined to choose her own destiny. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.

I was so excited for this book because i loved The Lunar Chronicles so much and i miss the characters a lot. While this book is different and probably not supposed to be part of a series, i did like it. Sometimes it was frustrating to read about all those failures of Catherine though. But i hoped until the end that Catherine is going to have a happy ending, even though the title suggests different.
