Review: Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Title: Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1)
Author: Tahereh Mafi
Published: November 15th 2011
Date Read: August 8th – 13th 2016

I have a Curse.
I have a Gift.

I'm a Monster.
I'm more than Human.

My Touch is Lethal.
My Touch is Power.

I am their Weapon.
I will Fight Back.

No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal, but The Reestablishment has plans for her. Plans to use her as a weapon. But Juliette has plans of her own. After a lifetime without freedom, she's finally discovering a strength to fight back for the very first time – and to find a future with the one boy she thought she'd lost forever.

I was really excited to start this series. While the beginning was quite promising, it turned into a romance very soon. It's ok to have some romance in a dystopian book, but it shouldn't be your number one priority. A lot of this book is about Adam here and Adam there, but only a little is about Juliette's gift and The Reestablishment.

The missing punctuation annoyed the hell out of me. I take those very seriously and i really hate it when someone does it wrong, even worse when someone doesn't do it at all.

But it's an easy read and i've heard the next books are going to be a lot better, so i'm definitely going to read them. This book was good though.

Review: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J. K. Rowling

Title: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Author: J. K. Rowling, Jack Thorne
Published: July 31st 2016
Date Read: August 4th – 8th 2016
Read In: English

The Eight Story,
Nineteen Years Later...

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

I think i can say for everyone who grew up with Harry Potter, we all have waited for something like this. But unfortunately it felt like reading a fanfiction. The story was great, but since i've always liked to pretend the Epilogue of Deathly Hallows didn't happen, i'll probably do the same with this one. I don't want to spoil anyone, but the storyline was at some point like – you can't destroy everything in this world JKR created.

And i'm sad we didn't get the actual story JKR wrote. This is only the play Jack Thorne and John Tiffany based on a story she wrote. Well, i would've liked to read her story instead. Maybe it wouldn't have felt so much like a fanfiction then. But still, i can't rate this book other than 5 stars.

Review: Golden Son by Pierce Brown

Title: Golden Son (Red Rising #2)
Author: Pierce Brown
Published: January 8th 2015
Date Read: July 27th – August 4th 2016
Read In: English

For seven hundred years, my people have been enslaved without voice, without hope. Now I am their sword. And I do not forgive. I do not forget. So let them think they own me. Let them welcome me into their house, so I might burn it down.

Darrow is a rebel forged by tragedy. For years he and his fellow Reds worked the mines, toiling to make the surface of Mars inhabitable. They were, they believed, mankind's last hope. Until Darrow discovered that it was all a lie, and that the Reds were nothing more than unwitting slaves to an elitist ruling class, the Golds, who have been living on Mars in luxury for generations.

Now fully embedded amongst the Gold ruling class, Darrow continues his dangerous work to bring them down from within. It's a journey that will take him further than he's ever been before – but is Darrow truly willing to pay the price that rebellion demands?

When i started reading this book, i actually didn't remember much about Red Rising because it's long ago since i've read it. But while reading, i started to remember and so this book was nice to read. The story was a lot about fighting tactics, which isn't so much my taste, but it was ok. So if you liked Red Rising, you shouldn't miss this book.

Review: The Marble Collector by Cecelia Ahern

Title: The Marble Collector
Author: Cecelia Ahern
Published: November 18th 2015
Date Read: July 13th – 16th 2016
Read In: English

A Box of Possessions.
A Father with no Memories.
A Daughter with just one Day
to piece together the Past.

When Sabrina Boggs stumbles upon a mysterious collection of her father's belongings, her seemingly uneventful life suddenly alters and shifts.

In the single day she has to search for answers about the man she thought she knew, a man who can no longer remember his own story, Sabrina uncovers far bigger secrets than she could have imagined. And discovers that sometimes it's the people closest to us that we know the least.

Before reading this, i didn't even know there where different marbles. I just knew about the normal ones, i guess. So Cecelia Ahern did a lot of research for this book, i'd assume.

The story was good, even though i enjoyed the parts about Sabrina's father more than those about her. It was really sad reading about his story.

Humanity is coming Home.

Weeks after landing on Earth, the hundred have managed to create a sense of order amid their wild, chaotic surroundings. But their delicate balance comes crashing down with the arrival of new dropships from space.

These new arrivals are the lucky ones – back on the Colony, the oxygen is almost gone – but after making it safely to Earth, Glass's luck seems to be running out. Clarke leads a rescue party to the crash site, ready to treat the wounded, but she can't stop thinking about her parents, who may still be alive. Meanwhile, Wells struggles to maintain his authority despite the presence of the Vice Chancellor and his armed guards, and Bellamy must decide whether to flee or face the crimes he thought he'd left behind.

It's time for the hundred to come together and fight for the freedom they've found on Earth, or risk losing everything – and everyone – they love.

In this book, more people from the ship arrived on Earth, among them the Vice Chancellor, who is kind of dangerous. Their camp on Earth is overrun by newcomers and the hundred are not okay with how things turn out.

Clarke, Bellamy and Wells flee because Vice Chancellor Rhodes wants to kill Bellamy. They find shelter in a little town near Mount Weather, but Rhodes and his men find them soon.

And back in camp, the dangerous group of Earthborns attack. And Clarke finds out her parents are alive, but she doesn't know how to find them.
