Review: Wendy Darling: Seas by Colleen Oakes

Title: Seas (Wendy Darling #2)
Author: Colleen Oakes
Published: September 20th 2016
Date Read: December 4th – 10th 2016
Read In: English

Wendy Darling: Seas finds Wendy and Michael aboard the dreaded Sudden Night, a dangerous behemoth sailed by the infamous Captain Hook and his bloodthristy crew. In this exotic world of mermaids, spies, and pirate feuds, Wendy finds herself struggling to keep her family above the waves. Hunted by the twisted boy who once stole her heart and struggling to survive in the whimsical Neverland sea, returning home to London now seems like a distant dream – and the betrayals have just begun.

Will Wendy find shelter with Peter's greatest enemy, or is she a pawn in a much darker game – one that could forever alter not only her family's future but also the soul of Neverland itself?

We finally get to know Captain Hook in this book and he isn't what he seems to be. At first you don't know why he helps Wendy and Michael, but when you read this book, you'll know soon. I really liked this book, maybe even a little more than the first.

Review: Wendy Darling: Stars by Colleen Oakes

Title: Stars (Wendy Darling #1)
Author: Colleen Oakes
Published: October 13th 2015
Date Read: December 1st – 4th 2016
Read In: English

Wendy Darling has a perfectly agreeable life with her parents and brothers in wealthy London, as well as a budding romance with Booth, the neighborhood bookseller's son. But one night, while their parents are at a ball, the charmingly beautiful Peter Pan comes to the Darling children's nursery, and – dazzled by this flying boy with god-like powers – they follow him out of the window and straight on to morning into Neverland, an intoxicating island of feral freedom.

As time passes in Neverland, Wendy realizes that this Lost Boys' paradise of turquoise seas, mermaids, and pirates holds terrible secrets rooted in blood and greed. As Peter's grasp on her heart tightens, she struggles to remember where she came from – and begins to suspect that this island of dreams, and the boy who desires her, have the potential to transform into an everlasting nightmare.

I think i've never read a Peter Pan retelling before that centers around Wendy. But i did like it very much. While reading you know something's wrong, but Wendy doesn't understand at first. Her brother John was quite annoying, because he is so mean to her for no reason. When you're a fan of Captain Hook, you will have to wait until the end of this book though.

Review: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J.K. Rowling

Title: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Author: J.K. Rowling
Published: November 18th 2016
Date Read: November 29th – December 1st 2016
Read In: English

Explorer and Magizoologist Newt Scamander has just completed a round-the-globe trip in search of the most rare and unusual magical creatures. Arriving in New York, he intends his stay to be just a brief stopover. However, when Newt's case is misplaced and some of his fantastic beasts escape into the city, it spells trouble for everyone...

I'm so glad JKR wrote this screenplay herself. Reading this was so different than Cursed Child, just knowing this are her words and not someone else's.

The story was great, i didn't think i'd like it so much. Newt was a nice character and it was interesting to read about his beasts. I just didn't like how they called Muggles No-Maj, it felt kind of wrong.

Bulletjournal.

You might have heard of Bulletjournals already. I first heard of them when i started this blog earlier this year. At first i was a little sceptical, because i thought why would i need that? But after months of looking at bulletjournals of others, i really wanted to have my own. I ordered one in October and wanted to start it in November. But i just couldn't wait, so i already started drawing in October. But still, it starts in November. I bought lots of new pens and i was searching in stores for some clear stamps, but i couldn't find any. But fortunately i found an online shop located in Germany, so i ordered lots of clear stamps. In this post, i just wanted to show you my journal (along with one of my new pens: it's a calligraphy fountain pen with black ink). I bought a Leuchtturm 1917 in purple. First i wanted to have a black one, but right before ordering it, i changed my mind i guess.

Review: Purity by Jackson Pearce

Title: Purity
Author: Jackson Pearce
Published: April 24th 2012
Date Read: September 23rd – 24th 2016
Read In: English

It's not a big deal.
I repeat the phrase over and over in my head until I've almost convinced myself.
Don't think about it too hard, Shelby.
Like Ruby said – I'm not trying to make love.
I'm just trying to get laid.

Before her mother died, Shelby promised three things: to listen to her father, to love as much as possible, and to live without restraint. Those Promises become harder to keep when Shelby's fahter joins the planning committee for the Princess Ball, an annual dance that ends with a ceremonial vow to live pure lives – in other words, no „bad behavior“, no breaking the rules, and definitely no sex.
Torn between Promises One and Three, Shelby makes a decision – to exploit a loophole and lose her virginity before taking the vow. But somewhere between failed hookup attempts and helping her dad plan the ball, Shelby starts to understand what her mother really meant, what her father really needs, and who really has the right to her purity.

I don't know how anyone can say this book is a cute story about a father and a daughter, because most of the book Shelby thinks about getting laid. She's only 16 years old and wants to get laid before taking a vow at the Princess Ball. Which her father wants her to go to. But she made promises to her dying mom when she was a child, so she thinks about loopholes to those promises. But i still liked this book, because i love the writing style of Jackson Pearce. And at the end of the book, things turn out better than Shelby thought they would.
